Overseas Pharmacists
We are able to obtain WORK PERMITS for pharmacists from overseas who want to work in the UK as community pharmacists. We have already employed pharmacists from India, Sierra Leone, Sardinia, Turkey, Australia, New Zealand, Kenya, South Africa, Botswana, Ukraine and several from Nigeria and Spain.
You will need to have undertaken a pharmacy degree course which is approved by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society Of Great Britain to have any chance of becoming registered in the UK. Many schools of pharmacy in India are now recognised so please send us an email. Some countries such as New Zealand and Australia and all European Countries have reciprocal arrangements with the UK. This means that you will only need to undergo Pre-Registration training with one of our pharmacists for a period of one month or none at all although we do recommend at least a month to make you familiar with our procedures.
Registration Requirements for Overseas Pharmacists
We get many enquiries by pharmacists registered abroad as to the exact route to registration in the UK, please read the following FAQs BEFORE emailing us for advice.

There is a reciprocal agreement for registration with Australia and New Zealand. Pharmacists registered in these countries need only undergo pre-registration training for a period of one month in an approved pharmacy premises. They are then automatically registered.

Pharmacists registered in all EEC countries can get immediately registered in the UK providing that they have a good working knowledge of the English language.

Pharmacists registered in all other countries (including the USA) must apply to the RPSGB Adjudicating Committee.

PDF information packs are available from this link.

If the RPSGB recognises the institution that awarded your degree then they will look at your case and give you specific requirements for registration. This will involve undertaking the Overseas pharmacist (OSP) registration course and exams at Sunderland University and then undertaking a one year Pre-registration placement at an approved premises followed by the registration exam at the end of this period.

You can work in the UK as  a dispenser whilst undertaking the Sunderland OSP course and examinations because you will be here on a student work permit. This allows to work for a few hours each day in order to help maintain yourself. You will not  be allowed to begin your pre-registration year whilst studying for the OSP exams, this came into effect September 2003.

Please only contact us once you have been adjudicated, good luck.
